Why we do what we do

The widespread use of masks revealed an important gap: protection without connection.
Our work is focused on closing that gap.

Why it matters

The COVID-19 pandemic brought renewed attention to the critical role of face masks in protecting both healthcare workers and the patients they serve. While public use has declined, masks remain a daily reality across healthcare, elder care, and specialized education environments.

What became equally clear, however, is that traditional masks are not always patient-friendly. By obscuring facial expressions, they can unintentionally create fear, confusion, or resistance—particularly among young children and cognitively impaired individuals, including those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

At its core, care is human. A smile, a familiar face, a sense of reassurance—these are not secondary to treatment; they are part of it.

We believe protective equipment can do more.
It can protect without distancing.
It can support safety while preserving connection.

That belief is what drives our work.
